Starting Over

It's weird to be writing a blog post again, but here I am, trying. With Twitter deteriorating every day, I've had to think seriously about how I want to communicate and with whom. I don't think I want a Twitter substitute. I want something less protean, that doesn't make me feel pistol-whipped by the day's events. I want stability, more substantial content, relationships. Perhaps I should've curated my Twitter feed differently, but now it feels too late. In any case, coming back to dreamwidth feels a bit like coming home.

Today was a good day. I had therapy, and it was an easy session. I talked about how I've started writing a new book. Given that I've had a form of writer's block for over a year (probably due to a medication I stopped taking about a month ago), my therapist was thrilled for me. And I worked on that novel today. Each day I flesh out a little better the scene I wrote the day before, then I add the dialogue for the next scene. I added about 400 words of dialogue today. Soon I'll have to write an action-y scene, but I haven't thought my way through it yet. It's so early days for this project that I don't even have a working title yet. I just think of it as "the Quinn book," because Quinn is the main character.

Tomorrow I have to write a poem recommendation for Patreon. I'm writing it early so I don't have to think about it over the holiday. We are going to Kansas for Friendsgiving, as has become our tradition. I'm very excited to see RB, Bogi, and Mati!

Will you be having turkey soon? What are your plans?

I'm sooooo glad to see you post. I've missed interacting with you. And the way Twitter jumbles tweets, if you've been tweeting, I haven't been seeing them.

I'm so glad you're on DW again. And yay, you're writing a new book!!

I will be doing Thanksgiving on my own this year (due to the pandemic making it unfeasible for me to tag along with friends), but there will be turkey, and then I'll get to have an outdoor meal with a friend this weekend.

I'm glad to be back, and yes, to be working on a new book. I didn't plan to start a new novel, but I started poking at the fragments I had last week, and after a few days of that, I had to admit, yes I was back on the novel rollercoaster.

I will be so relieved when we no longer have to make plans under the shadow of this pandemic. I'm a little envious that you can still dine outdoors this late in the year!

I hope it ends up being good here for you--hurray for Friendsgiving! Are Mati and Ash (correct name? Your child) similar ages? I forget... Also, everyone keeps getting older!

Hurray also for more writing! I love both your poetry and your fiction.

We'll be visiting my 91-year-old dad for Thanksgiving, "we" being me, husband, and the two American-dwelling kids. (The other two are in Japan.) It will indeed be turkey, also wild rice, roasted potatoes and sweet potatoes, roasted beans, salad, cranberry sauce (from a can--the marks of the can are well-beloved in our family), and apple pie. Possibly also stuffing, but as a side rather than as actual stuffing. Are RB & Co.--or you guys, for that matter--vegetarian? If so (or even if not), what will be in the center of the table?

Yes, Mati and Ash are only a couple of years apart. I know what you mean about everyone getting older! It's been wild to watch Mati grow into a teenager. I only see him once a year, so the changes are more startling than watching my own kid grow.

Your Thanksgiving sounds like a wonderful gathering. It's interesting that your family opts for apple pie over pumpkin or pecan pie. Thanks to RB, we usually get both of the latter. We are none of us vegetarian (anymore), so we will have a kosher turkey. :)

Yummmm, pecan pie. I myself love all the pies, but my dad avoids things with nuts (or did? I seem to have seen him eating nuts lately), and I feel like one of the offspring isn't keen on pumpkin pie, though that too may have changed.

Welcome back! I am having two Thanksgivings: one with friends who live nearby, and another with housemate, curtailed by her recent surgical orthodontic.

The "not much chewing" menu will include macaroni and cheese with tiny pieces of bacon, mashed sweet potatoes, and trifle. Not sure what the other menu will be; I don't think they've decided yet. I offered to help cook whatever.

Two Thanksgivings sounds like a blast. I think it's great that you and housemate aren't letting the orthodontic situation get in the way of celebration.
