It's been a whirlwind

cafenowhereI can't believe WisCon was only two weeks ago. I've been so busy that it feels like a month ago to me.
One good reason I've been busy is that it's my month to acquire poems for Strange Horizons. As of this morning I have 65 submissions awaiting decision. More than half of those I've already read and I'm sitting with them as I sort out my thoughts. As you may know, Strange Horizons is holding its annual Kickstarter. So, in addition to the regular issue that came out this week, we've been releasing works as we hit goals. At $8000, Mary Soon Lee's poem "I, Universe" was unlocked. I find this poem absolutely delightful! Once we hit $11,000, we'll present a hypertext poem by J.L. Jones that I accepted titled "You, Remodeled, Remade". I can't wait for folks to play with this piece, so here's hoping we make that goal soon!
A bad reason for this month's busyness was my inability to get a prescription renewed. I take amitriptyline as a preventative for migraine and I'd run out of refills. The pharmacy contacted my neurologist's office but received no response. I worried that it was because I had a new doctor, so I called the pharmacy and told them about the change in doctors. Days later, still no response from the neurologist's office. I got an emergency 3-day supply of pills, which I had to ration out so I wouldn't end up going cold turkey. When I called the neurologist's office myself, I was told my doctor was no longer practicing with them and since I technically was no longer a patient with one of their doctors, they could not provide refills. (This is the second time they have failed to notify me that a doctor of mine was leaving.) The office arranged to have my primary provider renew the amitriptyline prescription, but for Some Reason my primary provider is unable to prescribe the Ubrevly that I take at the onset of a migraine. For that I have to wait for my first appointment with the new-new doctor--in August. I'm tired of their bullshit--reasonably, I think--so I'll be looking for a new neurology office. Hopefully my primary provider can give me a referral and I can set up an appointment before I have to see a doctor I don't intend to keep.
I haven't touched the novel this week. I've been pondering a plot point that I don't know if I'll keep. The temptation to keep writing and worry about it later is strong, just so I can feel like I'm doing something. But I know "something" is hard to dismantle in rewrites, so I am trying to be patient with myself. Maybe the answer will come to me this weekend.
